Exclusive Short Featuring Mike and Jenson from Say Something
“Are you serious?” Jen looked like he’d just swallowed a frog. “What the hell are you wearing?”
Mike looked down, head tilting like he was a pup hearing a whistle. “Pardon me? It’s not obvious?”
He thought he was looking okay – he was ripped, his tan was back after shooting for seven months and playing an albino serial killer. Neville was having his annual Halloween party and god knew there would be a shit load of photogs there. It was a can’t miss event, and since they were in LA, he sure as shit wasn’t going to miss a second of it.
Not only that, but him and Jen, well they hadn’t gone to a costume party together since they were sixteen. Jen had been the vampire and Mike gone in drag as the victim.
Not the best costume in the history of dressing up, but it had been fun as hell.
“It’s ugly, babe.”
“It’s a zombie football player. You know, guts, gore, a little slime?” He had someone coming out to do his make up later. “What are you going as?”
“That’s not a costume.” That was Jen, balls to bones. That was truth.
“I don’t like it, Mike. I don’t ever want to have to think about you dead or rotting or bleeding or nothing. Not ever again.”
Mike rocked back on his heels a little bit. “It’s just pretend.”
“Not for me it ain’t. Please Mike.”
Mike nodded, just once, because Jen never asked if he didn’t need it. “I still have the chaps from when I played Tex. We could be matched set.”
He could see Jen relax, shoulders coming right down from his ears. “You think? I’m mighty fond of your backside, framed all pretty in leather.”
He’d never told Jenson no; this wasn’t the time to start.
“Sounds good, Jen.”
Jenson reached out for him, caressed his jaw sweet as could be. “You’re good to me.”
“I try, cowboy. I truly do.”
Say Something is releasing September 29, 2014 from Dreamspinner Press and I’m proud enough to bust. Writing this one damn near broke me and I haven’t quite recovered my soul.
Much love, y’all.
Jenson has loved Mike his whole life, but he has never known how to tell Mike how he feels. After high school Mike leaves for college and his Hollywood dream, while cowboy Jenson stays behind in their small East Texas hometown. Neither man knows what to say to go beyond friendship, even though they come together through all of the best and worst times of their lives. The most amazing moments keep bringing them back together, but through huge love and terrible loss, sickness and health, their timing never seems right to take their relationship to the next level. When the universe gives them one final chance, Jenson must overcome his fear and say the most important something before it's too late.
